Professional Accountability

NARM Certified Professional Midwives share a rich tradition of consensus decision making. Policies are created by midwives, for midwives, thereby upholding professional excellence.

Professional standards of accountability support midwives to remain active lifelong learners, confirming the ideals of competent practice.

NARM certification is renewed every three years. Continuing education requirements provide consistent opportunity for current knowledge and growing professional awareness. NARM Certified Professional Midwives maintain confidentiality, current practice guidelines and CPR certification. Informed consent provides flexibility for individualized care. Community peer review offers a template for continued understanding and problem solving.

Concerns regarding competent midwifery practice are addressed through NARM's Peer Review for Handling a Complaint. A formal complaint initiates this process. Action may be taken against a CPM's credential under NARM's Grievance Mechanism.
